As a teenager, she began her journey into the music scene and was a winner of local contests at the age of 10 old, and recorded her first album when she was fourteen years of age. The year 1987 was when she released her debut solo album following joining Rounder Records. She joined the group with who she still performs, Alison Krauss Union Station. The group released their debut album in 1989.
